Welcome to Craig's How to's

As a professional carpet cleaner I come across a wide variety of stains in my day to day business. Craig’s “How to’s” are a collection of articles I have written that will help you remove common stains while saving you time and money.

RED WINE

Ah the dreaded red wine. We have all been there, a friend spills red wine all over your carpet. Well don’t fear! Just follow these steps to ensure the best possible cleaning technique short of owning your own professional carpet cleaner.

Problem: Red wine has been split on your carpet.
Cleaning materials needed: Soda water, paper towel / clean towel, phone book.

Do not use salt, Bicarb, proprietary spotters etc, as this may damage your carpet.

Application: Blot up as much of the wine stain as you can with a paper towel. Liberally apply Soda water to wine stain, and blot again. Repeat 2 or 3 times. This should remove most of the wine stain. Place the clean towel over the stain overnight with a phone book on top. If the stain is still visible, then call a professional carpet cleaner.

Tip: Try not to spread a stain into unaffected areas of the carpet while cleaning!

I hope this helps you out next time a friend decides to get your beautiful carpet drunk!
